The tank can be refilled with a large compressor or at a garage,
auto body shop, or gas station.
If your source air was filtered, the air in the tank is free of
moisture.
The tank can still be used to fill car and bicycle tires, beach
toys, and other things that require a portable air supply.
A 10-gallon air tank at 100-125 PSI is enough to run an airbrush
long enough to complete several projects. Even a 50-pound
charge is enough to prime, paint and weather two HO railcars
with ample air left over to clean the airbrush.
The portable tank air supply is also useful for people who have
a large air compressor to operate pneumatic tools, but want a
more convenient and portable air supply for airbrushing. The
tanks are available in sizes from five to 15 gallons.
Here is all there is to it:
Purchase an air tank of the size you prefer from a “big-box”
home improvement store or an auto parts store. Portable air
tanks are available from Lowe’s, Home Depot, Sears, Costco,
and most auto parts stores under various brand names, col-
ors and sizes. I used a 10-gallon model available at Lowe’s for
approximately $40.00.
Additional parts to convert the tank into an airbrush air sup-
ply are available from most hardware stores (or big-box home
improvement stores):
Two ¼” National Pipe Thread (NPT) barbed male fittings to fit
the air hose that comes with the air tank.
Two female Milton 715 type M airline connectors.
Three male Milton type M Male airline connectors.
Airbrush air supply - 2
Two 3/8 “ aircraft-style stainless steel hose clamps (hardware
department).
Teflon tape (Iwata moisture/pressure regulator includes this)
(plumbing department).
Available from a hobby shop or an art supply store:
Iwata moisture regulator and pressure regulator “F.”
Connector to allow Male Type “M” connector to attach to
your airbrush hose.
The connectors allow you to connect or disconnect the air line
without loss of pressure. “Type “M” disconnects are the most
common, and cost the least, but as long as you stay with a sin-
gle type, they interchange. Use whatever version of disconnect
you prefer or find available.
