For passenger train modelers, Athearn has included a group of
Southern Pacific 77’ chair cars in its June schedule. The HO
scale Genesis series models feature operating diaphragms and
constant interior lighting. Paint schemes will include Daylight
(seen here), Challenger, Golden State, and SP general service
gray. The HO scale models require a 24” minimum radius for
reliable operation.
Athearn will release several HO scale Read-to-Roll models dec-
orated for the Napa Valley Wine Train. They include F7A diesel
units, a bay-window caboose, and both single and triple dome
versions of a tank car. Also a 40’ steel boxcar with separate wire
grab irons, Youngstown doors, and Dreadnaught ends.

NVWT passenger equipment will be three dining cars (Gourmet
Express, Le Petit Gourmet, and Silverado Trail, shown here),
two coaches (Zinfandel and Merlot), and two observation cars
(Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay). The heavyweight cars
have body-mounted McHenry couplers and six-wheel trucks.
Completing
Athearn’s June
release is a Ford
C-Series box van
with rubber tires,
separate steering
wheels, and clear
window glazing.
In addition to the
Railway Express
Agency scheme
shown here, the
trucks will be available for Bekins, Roadway, Penn Yan Express,
UPS, and Napa Valley Wine.
Atlas Model Railroad Company

) reports that it
has redesigned its HO scale version of Alco’s 1,000 hp S-2 diesel
switcher. The hood and cab have been retooled along with the
trucks which now have some separately applied details. The
