resulting in a car that is essentially a single piece of solid steel.
The cars were virtually indestructible and many are still in
active MoW service more than 60 years after they were built.
ExactRail’s model comes with Kadee #158 couplers and ASF
70-ton Ride-Control trucks with 33” machined wheels. The
Platinum series flat car is not quite ready-to-run because it
comes with separate laser-etched wood decking that is to be
applied by the hobbyist.
The GSC 53’ 6” flat car with 43’ 3” truck centers is available in
six paint schemes: Union Pacific in the road’s 1962 as-delivered
scheme, UP Maintenance of Way car number 59560 with
unique artwork on the left and right car sides, UP MoW car
number 909447 in UP Kenefick Green paint and labeled for Tie
Service, Santa Fe in 1954 as-delivered paint scheme; Santa Fe
MoW car number 209098 which is still in service on the BNSF;
and Northern Pacific in 1965 as-delivered scheme with sepa-
rately applied etched builders plates.
Serious modelers have
come to expect a lot from
ExactRail and this new flat
car does not disappoint. The
detail work, as seen in this
view of the underframe, is
noteworthy.
In other news, ExactRail has
expanded the selection of individual parts available for scratch-
builders and those upgrading other models. The assortment
includes door tracks and bars, draft boxes and lids, ladders
and stirrup steps, roofs, and underframes. A complete listing is
available at the website.
Imagine That Laser Art
(
)
has introduced
Grimsby Station, an
HO scale structure
based on a building
that once served the
CN/GTR Toronto-to-
Niagara Falls main
line in Grimsby, Ontario. Distinctive features of the laser-cut
craftsman kit include two styles of “witches-hat” roof turrets.
Assembling the kit is simplified by the use of modular wall
components with tabs that fit into the platform base. Laser-cut
rafters support roof panels with etched shingle detail. Board &
batten walls, wainscoting, shingles, and planking on the pas-
senger platform and freight dock are all laser-etched. Platform
benches, wood pallets, and the train order signal shown in the
photo are all included. As a special service, ITLA will customize
the station name board at no charge. Visit the website for pric-
ing and ordering information.
InterMountain Railway
(
)
is sched-
uled to release a new run of 89’ bi-level auto rack cars late
this month in early December. Auto racks decorated for Union
Pacific (two versions), Ferromex, Southern Railway, and Grand
Trunk Railroad will all be mounted on flats with TTX reporting
marks. Chessie System-B&O and Soo Line auto racks will be
mounted on Trailer Train flats. Also in the run is a car decorated
for Providence & Worcester.
