are not individual tracks in the yard. Each of these can be the
same physical yard track. What this does is specify in the train
manifest and in the location’s switch list where a particular car
is to go. It also allows the yardmaster flexibility in what yard
track he wants to use in building the next block or train, based
on the traffic levels that day.

Before I move on to the routing of the CHP car, let’s take a look
at one of these interchange tracks in more detail. Figure 12
(prior page) shows the Edit Interchange Track that I’ve named
the WCEUY -> Alturas Turn track. For now, the only car inter-
changed between these two trains is the CHP car. Only the
SP WCEUY is allowed to make drops to this track and only the
Alturas Turn is allowed to accept cars from this overlay track.
There is also a corresponding overlay track to move cars from
the Alturas Turn back to the EUWCY for the reverse trip. Once
these overlay interchange tracks are set up, you can use them
for any number of cars. Now let’s see how the CHP car is set up
to get that tequila to the customers (14-15).
Even though the Sotol distillery is over a thousand miles
away from West Colton, that is the station where the WCEUY
