Westerfield
(
)
has released
HO scale resin kits for sev-
eral variations of Northern
Alberta Railway’s stock cars.
NAR purchased 30 Fowler
boxcars from CP and rebuilt
them into stock cars at NAR’s Dunvegan Yards in Edmonton in
the early 1950s. Twenty years later the cars were converted to
Material Car service with various parts of the side slats covered
from the inside. During their service life, many of the cars were
further modified with various side post, end and corner gussets,
ladder grabs, half drop grabs, side ladders, and two versions of the
5’ Youngstown steel doors that were modified into stock doors.
Some received different roofs including two cars that acquired
radial roofs (a kit for this version is in development).
Visit the above website for a detailed description of the nine
kits that cover all the variations of the NAR car. Westerfield
craftsman-type kits consist of unpainted urethane castings
with prototypical details, assembly instruction/history sheets,
and proprietary decals. They are available direct at $40.00 plus
shipping. Trucks and couplers are not included.
