Hodina, who made many of the masters for Sunshine Models, is
reluctant to call RCW a business in the traditional sense, since
all he’s trying to accomplish is to share his interest in accurately
modeling freight cars with like-minded hobbyists. If the initial
offering of acid tank cars sells well enough to cover costs, Hodina
will then establish a website and begin work on a second car –
probably an insulated version of an ACF Type 27 Class ICC 103
10,000 gallon tank car.

August. The wood side cars will be available for Railway Express

Tahoe Model Works
has added a 40-Ton ARA truck to its
line of HO scale freight car trucks. The new truck uses the
same side frame as the previous TMW-114/214, but with
conventional bolster detail. Scullin Steel Company made

the prototype of Tahoe’s
new truck throughout the
1920s. It’s a conventional
ARA (American Railway
Association) cast steel
truck with spring plank. The
model has a one-piece black
acetal plastic moldings with separate brake shoe detail. It is fit-
ted with InterMountain non-magnetic, insulated metal RP-25
contour wheelsets. Semi-scale (.088” wide) wheels are also avail-

is working on a project to import handcrafted brass mod-
els of the Golden State, the extra-fare Chicago-Los Angeles
streamliner that was jointly operated by the Rock Island and
Southern Pacific Railroads. UTI will offer two complete eight-
car sets of the Golden State; one with an RI theme and the
other with an SP theme. The HO scale models will be based
on details and finish of the 1955-56 and 1960s prototype. The
models will be produced by Boo Rim Precision of South Korea.

of participating dealers since production quantities will only
be sufficient to meet pre-orders.
