Athearn’s August
schedule includes a
run of 20,900 gallon
general service tank
cars based on a prototype built by Richmond Tank Car
Company. Road names will be BNSF, Santa Fe, Celtran Inc., Dow
Chemical, and PTLX-General Electric Rail Services.
Rounding out
Athearn’s August
releases is another
run of the popular
Fruehauf 40’ Z-Van trailers. The HO scale models are produced
from upgraded A-Line tooling and feature positionable land-
ing gear and a working rear sliding bogie. Trailers will be avail-
able decorated for Santa Fe, Chessie System, C&NW, Southern,
Nacionales de México, and Union Pacific. Also in the mix is an
unlettered owner-operator version.

schemes and road num-
bers for its Dash 8-40B/BW diesel locomotive during the second
quarter of this year. The CSX YN3b version shown above will be
available with new numbers.
New paint schemes will be available for CSX (YN3 above),
Arizona & Eastern, Minnesota Commercial, Saratoga & North

Racine & Troy. An
8-40BW version of the
high-speed road locomo-
tive will be available for
BNSF, Arkansas-Oklahoma, and Providence & Worcester. A
Milwaukee Racine & Troy version will be available both with
and without an Operation Lifesaver slogan.
Also coming from Atlas
during the second quar-
ter are new road names
for a 50’ plug-door box-
car. The HO scale ready-to-run model is produced from original
Branchline tooling and features improved Dreadnaught ends,
and separately applied ladders, grab irons and latch bars. Road
names will include D&RGW cars in both the late version
(orange body, above) and the original scheme (orange over sil-
ver, below).
Additional road names
will be Kansas,
Oklahoma & Gulf;
Burlington Northern;
BREX-Burlington Route; and Pennsylvania Railroad.
Completing Atlas’ sec-
ond quarter release of
HO scale models is a
Trainman series Evans 52’ 13-panel steel gondola. Road names
will be Canadian National, Burlington Northern, Conrail, CSXT,
Denver & Rio Grande Western, and Erie Lackawanna. This
