I used seam filler putty to fill the underside of the four seats prior
to removing them. I sanded the filler smooth using my Dremel
tool. I used the cutting blade and sliced off as much of each seat
as I could. Using my X-Acto knife with a #17 chisel blade I finished
off the seat removal. I reset my Dremel tool with a sanding drum
for final touch up. The putty popped out on one of the seats. I
put Scotch tape on the bottom of the four seats as a precaution
and added more putty in the one that popped out. After I sanded
down the last putty area I taped over it as well.
The interior, which came in light blue, was painted a sand beige
color along with the partition parts for the nurses office. Why
sand beige? I had half a can of sand beige spray enamel left over
from another project. Waste not want not.
I began by assembling the base kit. The Red Cap partition kit had
more lockers and walls then I needed for the Bamboo Grove. The
restroom kit also had more than one stool and sink. I added the
extra walls to form the nurse’s office, where the four seats used
to be. Inside the nurse’s office is a long sofa and a restroom, along
with some lockers.
The long sofa that I had originally bought from Red Cap Line for
the Bamboo Grove is perfect for the nurse’s office. Another long
sofa is also used on the wall above as a fold down bed for the
compartment. I trimmmed the seat part of the sofa off, leaving
the back. I glued it to the wall above the first sofa. Both sofas are
painted in leather color before gluing them into position.
The four coaches had color schemes: one yellow, blue, and coral;
two green, copper, and gold; three tan, blue, and gold; four blue,
copper, and tan. Unfortunately the source material does not indi-
cate which car received which color scheme, or how and where
the colors were used. It does mention that the walls at each end
of the seats had murals of palm tree scenes.
