2. The second Washington Northern general merchandise freight
rolls through the Hoh River Valley in brilliant summer sunshine.
The roofs of these HO scale cars were weathered by building up
light applications of artist oil colors Raw Sienna, Burnt Sienna,
and Raw Umber using cosmetic sponges. Kevin Klettke photo-
graphed both of these images [1, 2] outdoors on a 2’x2’ diorama.

3. It is a typical day on the railroad – hurry up and wait. Nothing
is moving, but Tim Kristophel took the shot anyway. The photo-
graph is of the engine terminal of Tim’s 10’ x 14’ layout. We think
that Tim has accurately captured the look of a 1990s engine
terminal well. All that is missing is the smell of diesel exhaust and
diesel fuel!
