9. I needed to
build a scene
capturing the
prototype loca-
tion. I stacked
foam and
designed the
scene with the
camera set up
to guide me on the topography. I sprayed the sections with
Pledge furniture polish so things would slide smoothly during
the photo shoot.
10. I used a
new Foam
Glue from
“Great Stuff.”
You need to
buy a stainless
steel nozzle
to apply the
foam. It comes
out orange,
has very little expansion and sets up in 30 minutes to a work-
ing state. That is a real timesaver over the regular Great Stuff,
which takes 8 hours to cure.

13. I used fake
fur to make
the grassland
and carved out
sections with a
hair trimmer to
break the grass
into patches
where the dirt could show through. This was then painted
Hunter green from a spray can.
11. Even though
the glue has a
low expansion
rate, it still will
raise the foam
a little if you
don’t weigh it
down. Here I
use an arsenal
of weights to glue the scene together.

12. I carved the
top sliding sec-
tion with a rasp
and a Surform
tool to get a
smooth finish.
