After each row of 10-12 vines was planted, I snaked a section
of green floral wire through the stakes and trunks to simulate
irrigation hoses and secured it with CA. Slightly sloppy applica-
tion? No problem: that’s water!
An elevated water tank, spare stakes, and workers inspect-
ing and repairing the rows help create an active scene that
just awaits a few rose bushes at the row-ends (the vineyard’s

The Shoofly
The centerpiece scene, the shoofly, shows a temporary track
running on a dirt berm around the site of workers replacing an
old wooden trestle with concrete abutments for a new girder-
deck bridge (26).
