Finish and lettering
I began painting by hand-brushing several coats of Model
Master Light Gray #4765. Next, I masked off the cab and spray
painted flat black on the roof. I then masked off and sprayed
flat black on the engine hood roof and frame. The handrails,
steps and grab irons received 2 coats Monogram-Humbrol
#154 Insignia Yellow. I used an Ultra Fine Tip Sharpie and out-
lined all the windows in the cab.
For decals, I used several sources to get the parts needed.
"Danger 600 Volts” & “F” was from a Walthers #25-78 – ACL
GP-35 set.
Norfolk Southern” & “701” & “NS” were all from Microscale
#87-135 – Norfolk
Southern Diesels.
“Fuel”, “Water Fill”,
“Engine Oil Drain” &
“Emergency Fuel Cutoff”
from Microscale #87-48
– Diesel Data is used on
both sides of the frame.
Builders plate was cut
from Microscale #4054
– EMD & GE Builders
Plates.
Front and rear stripes
was from a Herald King
#L-210 – Grey Diesel
Hood Unit. This set
matched very closely to
