City of Miami part 2 - 9
The original car had an artificial palm tree at the end of the
bar. Fortunately, I have a neighbor who raises chickens. A polite
request generated some feathers. Just add a small stick from the
yard, some paint, and I would have a palm tree. Or so I was told.
It didn’t work for me, so I ordered some kit palm trees, and used
one. The pot on the bottom is the tip of a needle cover, trimmed
to size. I trimmed the palm tree to the desired height, and super
glued it into the overturned needle tip. I used regular glue to fill in
as a base for the dirt. A little paint, and I had my potted palm tree.
Chairs and sofas
I started with: Red Cap Line -312 Heywood Lounge Sofas #634-P-2.
Removing the seat portion from the sprue first, I use self-closing
tweezers to hold the part. These pieces are all so small I use twee-
zers and sprue clippers to cut them from the sprue. Removing the
two leg/arm parts from the sprue, I set them on the work surface.
I applied plastic cement to one side of the seat section. Using a
pointed tweezers, I placed the arm/leg piece on the side of the

sofa with the cement. I use the tweezers to line up the arms/legs
with the sofa body, repeating the step for the other side of chair
or sofa.
I left the seat in the self-closing tweezers until the cement was dry.
I only have 3 self-closing tweezers, so doing the 6 lounge sofas, 21
chairs, and one special sofa required days of assembly. I did the
entire package of each type, and then chose the best to use.
The sofa at the very rear of the car requires special treatment. It’s
unique from the other sofas in the car. The Red Cap Line -153.01
sofa is close, but too long. I took my Dremel tool, mounted my cut-
ting blade, and prepared to cut a sofa apart.
The sofa is three seats wide, I need two, so I sliced out the center
seat and glued the two ends together. The Dremel cuts were so
sharp that there was very little cleanup. You can’t see the seam.
Once all the chairs and sofas are assembled it’s time to begin
painting. All chairs and sofas have one common feature. The metal
frames are gold colored. The cloth parts of the chairs and sofas
