DCC compatibility between systems
I seeandget a lot of questions aboutDCC compatibility, so
let’s spendabit of time talkingabout it. First, thereareNMRA
standards that arebaseduponBernd Lenz’ basicpatents. I’m
going to talkaboutDCC components that conform toNMRA
standards. If theydon’t conform, all bets areoff. Many compo-
nents conformbut arenot certified. A list of testedand certi-
fied components is availableon theNMRAweb site
. But just becausea component isnot listeddoesn’t
mean that it doesn’t conform. Itmaynot havebeen tested.
Okay, let’s startwithabasicquestion: “I’vebeenusing system
Xand I am converting to systemY,will I have to reprogramall
my locomotives?”Theanswer is, “Probablynot.”
One case revolves around the situation I discussed inmy
