There's nothing like a deadline to push one along and I had a year
to build the peninsula that in itself amounts to a moderate-sized
layout. I got it done in time for the convention and had my first
open house in 1985.
Gustav:
Did you find that you had to modify your original plans as
you made progress on the layout? Is there anything you wish you
had done differently?
Jim:
Yes, somewhat. I originally had the John Allen Time-Saver
switching puzzle built into the layout but when I started having op
sessions no one wanted to switch it, it was too much trouble. So
I changed it over to a servicing facility. For the most part though,
the layout is basically just as I planned it.
