Jack Burgess is back with another Tool Shed for us, this time a
series on drafting tools for modeling. Jack’s first installment covers
the use of triangles for modeling. We find Jack’s insights extremely
useful and we look forward to more as this mini-series of Tool
Sheds unfolds.
Roger Ball demonstrates some simple but powerful weathering
techniques using artist’s pencils in his
How to weather a boxcar
piece. If there’s one single thing you can do to your equipment to
increase its realism, that’s to apply some weathering, and Roger’s
article is a great example.
We continue our articles on animating your layout with Bob
Anderson’s explanation of how he animated an icing platform.
While Bob models in O scale hi-rail, the animation methods Bob
employs will work in any scale, for any layout, be it tinplate, hi-rail,
scale, or fine-scale.
We present an important honorable mention winner in our $500
layout design contest series this month from Chris Di Paolo and
David Gallagher. Chris and David’s design shows what you can do
with $500 if you want to get started on a traction (streetcar) layout.
If you’d like to model something a bit more novel, you should take
a look at this clever starter layout.
We also didn’t want to let the 100th anniversary of John Allen slip
past without giving some tribute to the memory of a major hobby
pioneer. TomHokel ran a tribute train on his fabulous Gorre &
Daphetid look-alike layout (featured in the July 2012 MRH –
and we’ve captured the photos for your
