Some comments on the Fort
Wayne $500 layout contest
article wondered why it was
not more of a step-by-step
how-to for beginners, espe-
cially since it was the grand
prize winner.
If MRH is supposed to lead
readers by the hand, then
yes, we would agree. But if
MRH focuses more on point-
ing the way, then such arti-
cles can be idea-sparkers,
showing what's possible, but
not providing all the answers
to every little nuance of
starter layout construction.
Here at MRH, we see our
place as being more to point
the way and not to lead you
by the hand. When it comes
to pointing the way, this
includes coverage on special-
ized interest topics, and not
just mainstream topics.
We're not into "formula pub-
lishing" where we focus only
on what's popular. We also
want to cover specialized inter-
ests like narrow gauge, trac-
tion, and pre-transition era
modeling. This includes articles
on scales other than HO.
