Model Railroad Hobbyist | October 2016 | #80 LITE AND NARROW column larry smith The Twin Mountain and Potomac. Ramblings on Narrow Gauge, Shortline, and Branchline Modeling| A very short-lived eastern narrow gauge It all began with dumpster diving. What began with dumpster diving, you ask? My interest in The Twin Mountain and Potomac, a little-known narrow gauge railroad that existed in Eastern West Virginia. The story starts in the mid-1970s when my former brother- in-law, Richard Booth, was working in the American Car and Foundry car shops in Huntington, WV. The company he was working for had been contracted to do some plumbing work at the plant. While going between buildings, Richard noticed a bunch of old portfolios lying on the ground next to a dumpster. Curious, he opened them and found builder’s photos and spec sheets for numerous freight cars. Grabbing as many as he could, X X RAMBLINGS ON THE NARROW GAUGE • INDEX • TABLE OF CONTENTS
