There seems to be a common perception in our hobby that to be an active model railroader, you must have a layout or belong to a club where you can run your equip- ment. Is this really true? More than a few today to bemoan our hobby as slowly dying 1 , citing – among other things – the space requirements for a layout. You need a fair amount of space to have an operational layout, cor- rect? And then there’s all the costs involved: lumber, track, turnouts, DCC, locomotives, rolling stock … the list goes on.
