Rebuilt lightweight cars Over the years, the corrosive cleaning agents used on the prewar lightweight Daylight cars damaged their Cor-Ten steel carbody frame components. By the early 1950s the railroad began a massive rebuilding pro- gram, replacing badly corroded parts with new ones. Nearly all of the cars received new flat polished stainless steel skins.
