When the Marshfield and Old Colony Railroad reached Marshfield Hills, MA in the 1880s, the only possible path was between the ocean and Telegraph Hill. The town was incorporated in 1640 and predated the railroad by several centuries. Neither the entrenched old Yankees nor their townie government were about to sell their homes to the big city railroad people.
