. . . Richard J. Orr, 1925-2013
Streetcar enthusiast and modeler
Dick Orr has died at the age of 88.
Before his retirement, Orr spent his
workday in the printing business, but
at night he made parts for model
streetcars in his basement. The
model business was subsequently
sold to George Huckaby, proprietor
of Los Angeles-based CustomTraxx, a
company that still provides HOmod-
elers with the Orr Line of trolley track
switches and girder rail.
Orr authored two books includ-
ing “O&CB-Streetcars of Omaha
and Council Bluffs,” and “Omaha
Streetcars Revisited.” He helped
to restore an old Omaha street-
car that is now on display in the
DurhamMuseum. As a member of
the Omaha Running Club, Orr par-
ticipated in 22 events including the
Boston and Chicago marathons.
He was also active in the Omaha
Philatelic Society, and the Studebaker
Drivers’ Club. He is survived by
his wife of 62 years, Martha Ann
(Neuhaus), two daughters and three
grandchildren. Dick Orr was a long-
time member of Omaha’s St. Paul
UnitedMethodist Church, where a
memorial service will be held at 3:30
p.m. on August 18.
